Kartell goe Sottsass - A Tribute to Memphis
Today, we produce a few of his designs that were created expressly for Kartell ten years ago, but are still very modern. For the occasion, we present a vibrant and energetic scenic design at the Flagship Store Kartell, Prague, all centred on the typical post-futurist aesthetics of the famed design movement. The exhibition will also feature Kartell soft seatings, covered with fabric from the Memphis collection.
Two stools (Pilastro and Colonna) and a vase (Calice) proudly reflect their designer in their modular volumes and post-modern shapes.
We also thought this a good opportunity to celebrate one of this designer's greatest adventures: Memphis. We propose Patricia Urquiola's Foliage line of armchairs and sofas, the Trix modular seating system, Pop Duo and Plastic Duo sofas, Piero Lissoni's Audrey chair and Philippe Starck's Mademoiselle armchairs with fabrics created specifically by Kartell in collaboration with Memphis. The fabric collection was designed by Nathalie du Pasquier and Ettore Sottsass.
Kartell loves to dare, revolutionize, to thrill. It loves to surprise. The thrill can derive from a technological innovation or a new aesthetic trend in its products. Very often indeed it is a question of a blending of both.
But when these aspects give life to the ideas and visions of great designers who have in the past left their unmistakeable mark on the international design scene, here one has Kartell proceeding with true and proper cultural revolutions.
Today is the day of an unexpected encounter
Looking forward to see you!
